The exhibit takes place from Sept. 12—Oct. 31 at the Arts Council's offices, with a reception on Fri., Sept. 12, 5—7 p.m., including an artists' talk at 5 p.m. The public is invited to attend. ArtShip at Fellowship Place is an artists' cooperative for members who are interested in creating art, as well as exhibiting and selling their work at art shows, juried exhibits, and gallery shows. The process of creating art helps members with problem solving, goal making, and helps reduce symptoms of anxiety, depression, and schizophrenia.
Each year, Fellowship Place welcomes more than 500 people who suffer from a chronic mental illness to their campus in downtown New Haven, where they find acceptance and opportunities to learn new skills, be productive, and give back to the community at large. Services include job training, expressive arts, a computer learning center, social and recreational activities, supported housing, counseling, and meals. Fellowship Place is open 365 days a year, including all weekends and holidays.
The Arts Council is a regional non-profit membership arts organization dedicated to enhancing, developing and promoting opportunities for artists, arts organizations and audiences throughout the Greater New Haven area. The Arts Council strives to build a vibrant artistic and cultural community that is representative of all disciplines, fiscally strong, supportive of all artists and organizations, rich in ethnic and socioeconomic diversity and accessible to all audiences.
